Focus on Specialty Navigation

Our specialty navigation support for cancer, diabetes, U.S. veterans, gender affirmation, caregiver support and end-of-life planning – features specialized experts who better understand where members are in their journey and provide a curated experience to meet each member’s specific needs.

Cancer
Our Cancer Support Team assists members whether they’ve just been diagnosed, have already started treatment, or have previously been diagnosed with cancer. Our specially trained Health Advocates are by your side when you need us most. Members can connect with qualified personnel including experienced oncology nurses to discuss tips on preparing for doctor appointments, treatment information or emotional concerns—wherever they are in their cancer journey.

Diabetes
A Certified Diabetes Educator leads a team with specialized knowledge to support members navigating this complex condition. The CDE and team:

U.S. Veterans
The Veteran Specialty Program is staffed by Health Advocates (some of them veterans as well) with increased expertise about medical and mental health challenges veterans face and a detailed knowledge of U.S. Veteran Affairs benefits and your BCBSIL health plan. Our Veteran Specialty Health Advocates can help navigate through the health care system to get the help you need.

Gender Affirmation
A team of curated Advocate specialists collaborate to help transgender and gender diverse members navigate the unique complexities they face in and outside of the traditional bounds of the health care system. This team works together to ensure a respectful and sensitive health care experience taking into account mind, body and medicine.

Caregiver Support
People serving as caregivers can be easily consumed by the complexity, demands and expense of managing an aging parent or a spouse or child with a disability. Health Advocate experts assist members by identifying, understanding and closing resource gaps, as well as taking care of their own health care needs.

End-of-Life Planning
When members must face the reality of end-of-life planning, we are here to help. We assist members who may benefit from additional support managing next steps in their very personal and unique situation. Our goal is to help ease the member or family’s burdens often experienced navigating this complex experience.
