                                    ONE IN TWO EMPLOYERS SAID CANCER WAS THE NUMBER ONE DRIVER OF HEALTH CARE COSTS, AND 86% SAID IT RANKED AMONG THE TOP THREE.1Everyone knows someone who has battled cancer, whether a close friend, family member or co-worker. In fact, about 40% of men and women will have cancer at some point during their lifetime,2 and cancer rates are rising in people under the age of 50.3 As cancer treatment options are quickly advancing, so is the importance of seeking second opinions after an initial diagnosis. In a clinical review of second opinions in oncology, between 23% and 57% of patients had expected improvements in morbidity and prognosis due to a change in treatment from the second opinion.4 To support employees and their family members who are facing cancer, it%u2019s important for employers to offer coverage ranging from care management to second opinions, ensuring advancements in treatment are accessible and evolving guidelines are considered.
