Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Further Expanding Telehealth and Waiving Member Cost-Share
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) is responding to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic by offering additional options for telehealth services to give fully insured members improved access to care while reducing their risk of exposure. If you offer an employer-funded health plan, benefits may be different for your employees depending on the decisions you make about telemedicine.
What’s new: Effective immediately, BCBSIL will add 24 telehealth procedure codes that Illinois providers may use when billing BCBSIL for medically necessary health care services, including codes for behavioral health therapy. This adds 18 additional procedure codes beyond what was announced last week. BCBSIL will review submitted claims consistent with the terms of yourbenefit plan.

A Modern Approach to Health and Wellbeing
Chronic disease is systemic in America. Six in 10 Americans live with at least one such disease, which range from heart disease, diabetes and obesity to other leading causes of death, according to government statistics. In fact, 90% of the $3.5 trillion spent on health care every year is associated with treating and caring for people with chronic diseases.
Help is available: To fight back against chronic disease, we’ve developed a results-driven member engagement program that can help trim health care costs. It also can help spur healthier behaviors and encourage all employees to better manage their own health.
We’ve enhanced Wellbeing Management to drive near-term, hard-dollar cost savings through tailored interventions and more effective member engagement. In 2019, clients using the program saw savings in the average range of $10 to $30 per employee per month.*
