Helping Employers, Members Save on Prescriptions: Introducing Rx Savings Solutions
Applies to Fully Insured Groups and Retail
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) is working with RxSavings Solutions (RxSS) to help companies and members save on prescription drugs. This cost-saving service will soon become available to members in the Fully Insured Group and Retail markets. In 2023, the offering will expand to ASO business.
How it works. Accessed through Blue Access for MembersSM or the RxSS platform, RxSS’ software layers on top of a plan member’s existing pharmacy benefit. It analyzes claims, formularies, plan designs and networks to find the member lower-cost prescription drug options.
When RxSS identifies a savings opportunity, it notifies the member of the potential savings amount by email, phone, text or letter. The member can then access their online account to see what lower-cost prescriptions are available and compare prices based on their specific health plan.
Personalized service makes it easy for members to switch to a more affordable prescription option. RxSS works with health care providers to get their approval on any changes and takes care of all the details.
Clinical cost savings. Here are just a few ways members might be able to save money:
- Generic forms of name-brand drugs
- Better prices at different pharmacies
- Equally effective medications that treat the same condition but cost less than a current prescription
Employers save when members save.
- By putting the power of savings into members’ hands, employers save an average of $393 annually* every time a member successfully switches from a higher cost drug to the suggested lower cost drug.
- Members who use RxSS to switch to a lower cost alternative save an average of $573 annually*.
