Include the Writing Producer ID on All Medicare Supplement Paper Applications

When subproducers and producers onboard or contract with us, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) assigns each producer their own nine-digit producer ID number.

Medicare Supplement enrollment teams report paper/PDF applications are being submitted without nine-digit producer ID numbers.

In some cases, the field is empty, in others a producer ID is included, but it belongs to an agency. We require the producer ID number of the writing producer.

It’s critical that the writing producer enters their own personal BCBSIL ID number in the application in the “Broker Code” box on Page 5, not the agency’s ID number or a National Producer Number (NPN).

If the producer’s ID number has less than nine digits (e.g., 123456), the producer should add leading zeros (e.g., 000123456) as the nine-digit ID number. We use this ID number to verify the producer’s license and appointment status, so it must be included, accurate and legible.
